Finding the Wonder

Hello everyone!

One of the best things about being an editor is getting to work with amazing authors.

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing one of those authors, Laura Perdew, about her newest book, called KEYSTONE SPECIES: MEET THE ANIMALS KEY TO ECOSYSTEM HEALTH AND BIODIVERSITY WITH HANDS-ON SCIENCE ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS. While we both wished we were able to meet in person over a cup of coffee, we live too far away for that to happen and so had to be happy with a Saturday afternoon zoom call.

And here’s the thing—we’ve worked on dozens of books together over the past eight years, and I still learned new things about her and her writing process!

Laura’s School Library Journal interview is available now—take a look!

I love this quote from the interview: “Kids who are amazed tend to care more about the natural world and are more likely to be inspired to act,” she says. “If I can help accomplish that, I’ll be happy.”

That pretty much sums up my own wish for Nomad Press. If we can help young readers think about the world differently, to care about the beavers, bees, and bison after reading a book like KEYSTONE SPECIES, we’ll be doing our job.

What amazes you about the world around us?

Have a great week!
