Back to School!

A new school year is starting! What are you doing to mark the occasion?
Just like many people choose a focus word on New Year’s Day, many educators pick a word to introduce to their class on the first day of school.
Choosing a one-word theme for the school year can be a wonderful way to set tone and expectations and to establish a foundation of community.
All that from one word?
Sure!
Consider “wonder.” A great word. A wondrous word! A word that invites kids to learn for the sake of learning. What do you wonder about? What do you find wonderful? How do you welcome a sense of wonder into your days?
How about the word “fun?” What are some habits that are FUNdamental to learning? How can we have fun in our classroom? What is your favorite funny joke to share with a new friend?
And one more: “Thrive.” A school year is a time for going above and beyond expectations, both those set by educators and by students themselves. A classroom is a safe space where everyone can thrive.
Whatever work is setting the tone for your school year in your classroom, here at Nomad we wish you good luck and good learning. We know that educators are carrying a huge, complicated weight these days, but despite all the troubles, we wish for you to find wonder, fun, and moments to thrive.
